Gabby Agbonlahor drops horror Dominic Calvert-Lewin take after Leeds win vs Newcastle

Gabby Agbonlahor does not believe that Leeds United's Dominic Calvert-Lewin will get another England call-up.

The Whites thumped Newcastle 4-1 at Elland Road on Monday, and their attack was on fire.

That includes Calvert-Lewin, who had a goal and an assist on the night, though there has been major discussion over whether he scored two, after the Premier League adjudged the second as Jayden Bogle's.

Daniel Farke has now helped Leeds win 35 points in 2026, with only four teams in the Premier League doing better than them.

That's largely down to his strike force, which has been spearheaded by an Elland Road favourite.

Calvert-Lewin is slowly putting himself back in contention for England, though Agbonlahor suggests he knows what's around the corner,

Calvert-Lewin was given an England call-up in one of the final international breaks before the World Cup, but was sent home early by Thomas Tuchel.

It was at that point that it appeared his hopes of being in the squad that fought in North America were squashed.

He had to watch England this summer, but will be hoping to keep up his form for Leeds this year, potentially giving Tuchel no other choice.

While speaking on talkSPORT on Tuesday, Agbonlahor gave his opinion on the 29-year-old.

He said: "I still don't think he gets a call-up. I just don't think he's at the level that maybe Tuchel thinks England needs. Does he look at [Liam] Delap?

"If he plays like that, he's a defender's nightmare, but what he will do is that, sooner rather than later, he'll be missing the easy chances; he's not normally clinical. I think Leeds is where his level is."

To compare Calvert-Lewin to Delap for a start is utterly nonsensical, but then to say Leeds is his level is even more complicated.

That's clearly a dig at both the player and the club, who are striving to qualify for a European spot this season.

Pre-anticipating Calvert-Lewin to start missing chances is just strange too, especially given he missed opportunities against Newcastle but still had a major impact.

Farke has been delighted with Calvert-Lewin since he joined the club on a free transfer last year.

The former Everton man has finally broken his trend of getting injured, and Leeds are reaping the rewards of potentially his best-ever version of himself.

Speaking on the forward after the game, Farke was asked about his chances of getting an England call-up this year.

He said: "Definitely realistic, but there are a few other names on my mind with an English passport after a performance like this."

Bogle and James Justin are most likely being referenced, while James Trafford has already been in Tuchel's thoughts.
