It’s been a tough 2020 but the single scariest moment was the first quarter of the game against Man City. Rodrigo will be the saviour this season.

German outlet Kicker has reported a fresh twist in the protracted transfer saga of Josko Gvardiol after a major update from Sky Sports reporter Fabrizio Romano.

Romano had said that the young centre-back would now be joining RB Leipzig.

However, Kicker has now reported that Gvardiol will not be going anywhere this summer.

The report asserts that Leeds were the favourites to sign Gvardiol this summer but that he will now stay with Dinamo Zagreb and make a move to RB Leipzig next year.

Kicker states: "In the coming summer, Dayot Upamecano's departure is to be expected in Leipzig, Gvardiol should replace the courted Frenchman in the long term."

It added, "Gvardiol's exit should, contrary to other reports, only come in July 2021."

Frustration over Gvardiol

It's hard not to get frustrated about this deal.

It sounds like Leeds had agreed a fee with Zagreb for the player, only for Gvardiol himself to scupper the deal.

It had been said that he didn't want to move too fast, too young, and that he saw the Premier League as a step too far at this point in his career.

We can only surmise that he hasn't been following the progress of youngsters under Marcelo Bielsa, including Ben White last season.

We think Leeds would have been the perfect place for him to progress, but he obviously believes another year with Dinamo Zagreb will be the best place for him.

A move to RB Leipzig is the big carrot at the end of the stick for him but unless something dramatic happens, it appears the door is still closed on a move to Elland Road.
