Daniel Farke may be in trouble at Leeds United after his side's defeat at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Leeds were beaten 3-0 by Brighton on Saturday afternoon as the Seagulls showed their true Premier League class in dominating the Whites the whole game.

The game didn't come without its controversy, however, as Fabian Hurzeler was furious at an Ethan Ampadu foul as the Brighton head coach came to blows with Farke on the sidelines.

Fabian Hurzeler and Daniel Farke exchanged words in German

Farke will now face deserved backlash from the Leeds faithful after setting up the Whites in the completely wrong way.

It's now very clear that Farke needs to adapt his football against Premier League sides who simply have better technical ability.

  • In the 73rd minute, Ampadu lunged in on Brighton player Diego Gomez
  • The foul was reckless as Ampadu could and maybe should have seen red
  • Ampadu only picked up a yellow as the Hurzeler and Farke then went at it

A 3-0 margin could have been even bigger if Ampadu was sent off against Brighton, as Hurzeler revealed what he said to Farke in German.

Hurzeler said, as quoted by Leeds Live: "I said in German, it might be a red card. Sometimes I need to adapt how we judge fouls. But these are the emotions of the game. I have huge respect for him and his team."

Perhaps Hurzeler was keeping it PG in his post-match comments, and it would be no surprise if he and Farke were getting much more personal.

However, as Hurzeler said, he respects Farke and further praised Leeds' "physicality" in the match.

Leeds need to play more defensive

It's not the Championship anymore, and Farke seems to fail to understand that.

Despite Leeds spending £100m plus in the summer, it still seems like the Whites lack quality in key areas.

The problem is that Farke persists with trying to keep the ball, as Leeds totalled 50 per cent possession away from home against Brighton, and only managed two shots on target.

Farke needs to set Leeds up to play more counter-attacking football, focusing less on the ball and more on direct, transitional play.

If he doesn't make the necessary changes, Leeds could be doomed.
