'Especially Leeds fans' – Ian Abrahams reacts as he shares what EFL has told him about restart

talkSPORT journalist Ian Abrahams has called for restraint from fans ahead of the Championship restart but has said that they must be trusted – and "especially Leeds fans". 

Talking on the Breakfast show (talkSPORT, Monday, 8am), Abrahams said that he had been told by the EFL that the plan is to play in home and away stadiums unless police intervene.

All games will be played behind closed doors but there is a fear that fans could congregate outside stadiums, with Liverpool, Leeds and West Brom deemed as 'high risk' in a report on the Times that says they could be forced to play some games in neutral stadiums.

"From what I’ve been told by the EFL, the plan is to play at home and away stadiums, unless the police say otherwise," Abrahams said.

"We need to absolutely trust the fans. We can’t trust people about going to the beaches over the weekend. We can’t trust people about going off to protest. Let’s trust football fans to be a shining example in the world.

"Let’s say we can trust Leeds fans and West Brom fans, and especially Leeds fans who haven’t been promoted to the Premier League for 16 years.

"We know you want to go there, but let’s show restraint."

Leeds United fans have got a chequered past with Abrahams but let's give him a round of applause here.

We think this is absolutely the right message to be putting out ahead of the Championship resuming.

Football fans often get tarred with a negative brush but the Bundesliga has already set a fantastic example, with no big gatherings of fans at stadiums.

We really believe that Leeds fans can lead the way in the UK. Along with Liverpool, they've got more at stake than anyone but it's so important that fans stay away.

We all miss the roar of match day. We all miss being at Elland Road on matchday.

But the only outcome if fans head there on matchday is that Leeds will be forced to play at neutral venues and that could have a negative impact on our promotion bid.

Stay away, watch all the games on TV (all 108 games are set to be broadcast) and let's have a party at Elland Road when it's safe to do it. Hopefully when we're back in the top-flight.

With Leeds on the brink of the Premier League, the club needs this one thing from all true fans.
