Darcie Green has admitted that it was "surreal" to play at Elland Road after Leeds United Women beat York City Women 3-0 on Sunday.

The victory against their Yorkshire rivals has sent them within touching distance of league leaders Cheadle town with Simon Woods' women now level on points with them.

Speaking to LUTV after the clash, Green shared her verdict on how the game panned out.

"Surreal really [playing at Elland Road] I think we just really wanted to enjoy the moment and obviously scoring a goal is really rare for me because I played as a defender most of the time but it was amazing to score in front of all those people," she said.

Leeds United Women need to pip Cheadle Town to the top spot

The 2024/25 season has been more than solid for Leeds United Women with the club finding themselves as genuine title contenders.

Last season the West Yorkshire outfit narrowly missed out on gaining promotion but with new signing Beth Guy now among their ranks and their recent run of form, it's hard to see how Woods' women won't end up in the top two places this term.

The Whites find themselves level on points with Cheadle Town with just four goals separating them from the top spot.

Leeds United fans light blue and yellow smoke bombs
Leeds United fans are among the most passionate supporters in the country.

If they continue putting this many goals past their opponents and can get the better of Cheadle when they face one another in February, there's nothing that could feasibly stop them.

Only time will tell what the future holds for the club but if their recent performances are anything to go off of, they'll be promoted in no time which, at the end of the day, has been their goal since the season kicked off.
