Joel Piroe has the upper hand on Mateo Joseph at Leeds United ahead of the clash with Queens Park Rangers, according to Joe Donnohue.

Daniel Farke's side welcome QPR to Elland Road on Saturday (9 November) as they look to get back to winning ways before the international break having lost 1-0 to Millwall at The Den last time out.

Although Piroe came under fire from pundits and fans alike for his display in that defeat, Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Donnohue has backed Farke to hand the Dutchman another start against Marti Cifuentes' side.

Writing for the Yorkshire Evening Post (9 November) he said: "[Piroe] Has the upper hand on Mateo Joseph and Patrick Bamford, for now."

What has happened to Leeds United attacker Joel Piroe at Elland Road?

Few players in this Leeds United side currently have been quite as difficult to judge as Piroe has over the last two seasons.

The Dutchman is clearly an excellent player and he has games where he has looked like the sort of striker capable of firing the Whites to promotion, but on other occasions, he has appeared to be almost anonymous at the top end of the pitch.

Against Millwall, the former Swansea City man struggled to have any real impact on proceedings and while neither Joseph nor Patrick Bamford were particularly impressive off of the bench, at least they offered a presence.

Joseph in particular has impressed with his energy and work rate so far this term. He may not be the perfect number nine and his talent remains incredibly raw, but you have to to wonder if he would be a better choice to lead the line.

Whoever starts up top against QPR, this is a game that the Whites simply have to win if they have genuine aspirations of winning automatic promotion back to the Premier League.

Farke and his side cannot head into the international break on the back of back-to-back defeats against Millwall and QPR otherwise serious questions will be asked of both the manager and his team.
