Daniel Farke 'seething' with duo, Chelsea coach 'furious': Three things you may have missed in Leeds vs Chelsea

Daniel Farke was raging with several Leeds United players during their Carabao Cup defeat to Chelsea on Wednesday.

The Whites trailed 2-0 heading into the 50th minute, but what was to follow could not have been predicted by many.

Xabi Alonso had made four changes at the break, and though Brenden Aaronson's goal put Leeds into a two-goal lead, his substitutes soon changed the contest.

Chelsea ran away as 6-3 victors, with a brace from both Cole Palmer and Danny Welbeck, and goals from Pedro Neto and Valentin Barco.

Farke made eight changes to the starting eleven that drew with Brighton last weekend, and it showed in the second 45.

The Leeds boss now has plenty of food for thought after a loss that was filled with all the emotions.

Chelsea coach was raging at Leeds goal

Tarik Muharemovic scored a towering header from a Harry Wilson corner to put Leeds ahead at Stamford Bridge.

BBC Sport's Chelsea reporter Nizaar Kinsella explained how Chelsea's new set-piece coach, Austin MacPhee, was "furious" with the Whites' opening goal.

It suggested that the Blues' defence didn't do their job of marking perhaps Leeds' best threat in the air.

Farke's team excelled at set pieces last year, while Chelsea suffered from them on a regular basis, which would explain MacPhee's fury.

It wasn't just Chelsea figures who were fuming during the game, as Farke was also left unhappy with several players.

As highlighted by The Athletic journalist Beren Cross on X, Farke was visibly "seething" with Jaka Bijol and Muharemovic for a lack of aerial urgency early on.

Debutant Melvin Bard and Lukas Nmecha also left the German head coach frustrated at times in the first 45 minutes.

Given Farke's expressions in the first half, the Leeds players may have been in for a tough dressing room talk after the game.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink makes admission on Leeds' starting XI

While speaking live on Sky Sports before kick-off, former Leeds and Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink shared his thoughts on the Whites' lineup.

Hasselbaink said: "I've been very impressed; you can see them growing. They've made eight changes, but it's not a weakened team at all.

"[Dan] James has come in, [Brenden] Aaronson has come in. These are players who have been playing for a few years in the Premier League."

Hasselbaink spoke about how impressed he was with the Whites after the first 45, and was particularly wowed by Muharemovic's header.

There was no bias here from the former hit-man, who loves seeing Leeds do well, and was still full of praise after full time, despite the heavy defeat.
