Leeds have enjoyed a mixed start to the Premier League season, claiming three points from their opening two games.

Leeds' 1-0 win over Everton on the opening weekend ensured Daniel Farke's side enjoyed a brilliant return to life in the Premier League.

However, a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Arsenal, followed by a disappointing penalty shootout defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Cup, has slightly dampened optimism around Elland Road.

Injuries to Ao Tanaka and Ethan Ampadu highlight Leeds' lack of high-quality depth in midfield, and one target could provide an ideal solution to their issues.

Gus Hamer the perfect addition for depleted Leeds midfield

Sheffield United midfielder Hamer enjoyed a brilliant 2024/25 season, although failed to achieve promotion after defeat in the play-off final.

FourFourTwo journalist Joe Donnohue reports that Hamer would be available to Premier League clubs in a loan-with-obligation-to-buy deal, as he is keen on a move to the top flight.

Hamer already has one season of experience in the Premier League, and possesses game-changing qualities that Leeds will need this campaign.

He is much more attacking, and in 2024/25, his stats were much better than any of Leeds' current available options.

Hamer could be a potential Brenden Aaronson replacement and it would seem foolish for Leeds to not to go after the Dutch midfielder, as they'll need every tool at their disposal if they are to achieve survival this season.

What Ruben Selles has said about Gus Hamer's future

Sheffield United have endured a miserable start to the season under new manager Ruben Selles, and now he is in danger of losing one of his best players.

Selles told the Yorkshire Post: “He’s a Sheffield United player and I want him to be a Sheffield United player when the market closes.

"Obviously I cannot control what happens in the future because the market is so fluid and dynamic, but my intention is to keep him as one of our key players."

Farke only has a few days before the window shuts, but Hamer is definitely a key player that he should act swiftly on.
