Club CEO makes statement as Leeds reportedly plot January moves for two of his players

Coventry City CEO Dave Boddy has released a statement after Leeds United were linked with two of his players.

Sky Sports reported that Leeds were interested in moving for midfielder Zain Westbrooke, while Coventry Live journalist Andy Turner said he understood that Leeds were considering a buy-to-loan-back deal for left-back Sam McCallum.

He called McCallum Coventry's "biggest saleable asset" and that Leeds have been chasing him for over a year.

However, as quoted by Coventry Live Boddy said, "January speculation. We have had no interest or inquiries from anybody about anybody."

19-year-old McCallum would be one for the future anyway by the sounds of it, despite making 15 League One appearances for Coventry this season.

He signed a contract extension last year and is currently set to stay with the midlands club until 2022.

Left-back is a position that Leeds have struggled with this season, but there are plenty of senior bodies in contention.

Gjanni Alioski has played there but has been accused of leaving the side exposed after his forward runs.

Barry Douglas came on at left-back for the second half of the game against West Brom and helped turn the game around.

He also played the full 90 minutes against Arsenal and could be in line for a start against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Leeds are said to be in the market for a striker, winger and a keeper this January, although an ongoing injury to Adam Forshaw could mean the club is forced into signing a midfielder as well.
