Leeds United loanee Cian Coleman proved himself a hero for Buxton with a hat-trick in their 3-2 win over Scunthorpe United this weekend.

LUFC youth posted on X (9 November), congratulating Coleman for his treble in an away victory for the Bucks on Saturday, which sent them up to third place in the National League North.

Coleman was only loaned to the Derbyshire side on 18 October and is in line to return to Thorp Arch in the New Year, but the Republic of Ireland Under-19s international is already making a big impression.

Cian Coleman provides what Daniel Farke wants at Leeds United

At 20 years old and experiencing his first taste of senior football in England's sixth tier, it's clear that Coleman, who has operated largely as a defensive midfielder for United, has a goalscoring touch.

Scoring a hat-trick from central midfield is impressive at any level – let alone doing so away from home against a side second in the National League North table – and Coleman rightly earned the match ball.

A lack of goals from midfield was seen as a key area in which Farke's first-team side fell in their failed promotion bid last season, with Ethan Ampadu, Glen Kamara and Archie Gray all failing to score.

Even Ilia Gruev's sole strike came in the Championship play-off semi-finals, and so far this campaign, Brenden Aaronson is the only central midfield-minded player to find the net for the Whites.

If United are consigned to a third year in the second tier at the end of this season – and a plethora of key departures follow – Coleman could prove to be an answer to the continued midfield conundrum.
