Brenden Aaronson is likely to be handed a starting role for Leeds when they host Tottenham on Saturday.

Leeds face Tottenham at Elland Road this weekend, looking to end their current run on a high note before yet another international break.

Dan James is ruled out for Leeds, while Willy Gnonto's availability is yet to be confirmed after the Italian missed the last few clashes with injury.

With Jack Harrison seemingly far down the pecking order, Aaronson is likely to start once again for the Whites, and Thomas Frank is a fan.

Thomas Frank once heaped praise on Brenden Aaronson

The USMNT international isn't the most popular face around Elland Road, though Aaronson did impress for Leeds in their latest draw against Bournemouth.

It is his lack of goals and assists that have often caused the most frustration among the Whites faithful, and it was no different in his first season at Elland Road.

Aaronson scored once and assisted three in 36 Premier League appearances for Leeds before abandoning ship upon their relegation back to the Championship.

One of the games he featured in that season was a heavy 5-2 defeat to Brentford, with Aaronson starting as the number 10.

While he failed to have any real influence, Frank, who was the Brentford boss at the time, was full of praise for the American.

As quoted by Leeds Live back in 2022, Frank said: "Aaronson - what a player, what a player, that's a top buy for Leeds."

Leeds supporters are yet to see Aaronson reach the heights that Frank seemingly had set for him, but he will almost certainly have a chance to add validity to Frank's comments when Tottenham travel to Elland Road this weekend.

Where is Brenden Aaronson's best position?

Two weeks ago, the undeniable answer would be the bench.

However, there were plenty of promising signs against Bournemouth that suggested Aaronson could have a big part to play for Leeds in the wide areas.

Aaronson’s stats vs Bournemouth

  • 1 chance created
  • 76% pass accuracy
  • 8 duels won
  • 5 touches in the opposition box

Aaronson was unfortunate not to get an assist for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, which would have certainly drawn more attention to his performance.

With James unavailable, he simply has to take his chances in the next few games and could make that right-wing spot his own.
