Beren Cross: Raphinha and Ashley Westwood clash after Leeds beat Burnley 4-0
Raphinha was involved in a furious exchange with Ashley Westwood after Leeds United beat Burnley 4-0 on Saturday, according to LeedsLive journalist Beren Cross.
It was a fractious fixture at Turf Moor with most of the attention centred around the dispute between Ezgjan Alioski and Clarets winger Dwight McNeil.
But it appears that there was another argument brewing elsewhere on the pitch that spilled over into the tunnel.
Writing on the LeedsLive website on Sunday, Cross detailed the bust-up between Raphinha and Westwood that went under the radar.
"The initial flashpoint was Raphinha’s dramatic reaction to a robust Westwood challenge in the centre-circle during the second half," he wrote.
"Westwood let the Brazilian know what he thought of the theatrics and Raphinha was not afraid in having a word back."
He added: "That wasn’t the end of it, though. Even after the full-time whistle, Westwood saw fit to seek out the winger as they trudged back to the dressing rooms.
"Raphinha was never going to back down and it took several players to pull Westwood away. Bielsa was walking by at the same time and even seemed to tap Raphinha on the shoulder as he went by."
Desire
It was a feisty fixture to say the least.
We await more news regarding Alioski and McNeil, with the potential that it could be something more serious, with the North Macedonia international reported for an "offensive" gesture. [The Times]
The interaction between Raphinha and Westwood appears to be less sinister and more about the robustness of the Burnley midfielder.
The Brazilian winger has been targeted by the opposition on a number of occasions this season as they look to deal with his trickery.
It's sometimes spilt over into something a bit nastier with forceful challenges but that's the nature of the Premier League and Raphinha will have been warned about that.
We've got no problem with him standing up to something he deems to be over the top but the main thing is he didn't let it get the better of him on the pitch, nor did anything major happen in the tunnel according to Cross.
