Former Reading manager Brian McDermott believes John Swift is set to be a Premier League player amid links to Leeds United.

The Whites have been trailing the English midfielder for a year now and he could be on the move in the summer.

McDermott backs him to do well at Elland Road or even at Aston Villa, who are believed to be keen on snapping him up.

"You could stick him in at someone like Aston Villa as technically he’s very good,” McDermott said on BBC Radio Berkshire.

“He makes goals, he scores goals and I can see him ending up at somewhere like Aston Villa or someone like Leeds United.

"He can play, he sees a pass but it’s hard to say [how good he will be] until you put them in that environment.”

Sign him

Swift was a midfielder that Marcelo Bielsa liked and is still on the club's radar after his exit.

The Whites need to sign at least two midfielders in the summer and if Swift is one of them, then so be it.

Leeds are in no position to sign world class players and could benefit from getting bargains in from the Championship.

The 26-year-old been described as “outstanding” in the past and should be capable to do put in a shift at Leeds.

Whether or not the board prioritises him over another midfielder remains to be seen.
