BBC journalist: Injured Leeds player could leave club in January

Leeds United forward Jay-Roy Grot is unlikely to leave the club this transfer window due to injury.

However, the striker's situation will be assessed in January, according to BBC journalist Adam Pope, and that could see him leave the club ahead of his contract expiring in the summer.

The 22-year-old picked up a knee injury whilst on loan at Eredivisie outfit Vitesse last season, before seeing the injury become infected.

Grot is currently recovering in the Netherlands.

The Telegraph had reported that Grot could leave the club in this window.

Moving Grot on the best for all parties

Grot signed for Leeds for £1.5m in the summer of 2017 but this is one of Victor Orta's transfers that didn't work out.

Grot would go on to score just once in his 23 appearances for the club.

Subsequent loans at VVV-Venlo and Vitesse had seen the burly forward find some form, but the Whites' promotion back to the Premier League means a quick exit for the Dutchman is possibly in the best interests of all parties.

Most fans think Grot tried his best at the club and would like to see the youngster get a chance to progress his career as quickly as possible.

January would be the last chance to get a fee for the youngster and it's possible that Leeds let him move on for a nominal fee.

Ligue 1 side Dijon had reportedly been interested in Grot back in August, however this latest injury setback will almost certainly see any move delayed until the winter.

Elsewhere, The Telegraph has reported that Kiko Casilla, Ouasim Bouy, Conor Shaughnessy and Barry Douglas could all leave the club before the transfer window closes.
