Leeds United's attempts to bring Liverpool star Caoimhin Kelleher to Elland Road may have hit a barrier after the latest update from Germany.

Ahead of life back in the Premier League, Leeds will be looking to recruit heavily, but smartly, when the summer transfer window comes around.

Daniel Farke looks set to be backed financially as the Whites aim to break the trend of promoted teams dropping straight back into the Championship.

Leeds are said to be willing to pay £30million for a new goalkeeper, but after the latest update on Kelleher, attentions may now turn elsewhere.

Brentford join Kelleher chase amid Leeds United interest

With Illan Meslier looking as though he has no future at Elland Road, the Whites have been doing their homework on several goalkeepers across Europe.

Kelleher was one to have been strongly linked with a move to Leeds United, but a report from Sky Sports states that Brentford are now in pole position to sign the Irishman.

Mark Flekken is their number one, but Bayer Leverkusen are now closing in on his signing this summer, which will have a knock-on effect for Leeds in their pursuit of Kelleher.

The Bees are said to have a strong relationship with Liverpool, having signed Sepp van den Berg from Anfield last summer.

If Kelleher makes the move to Brentford, it may cause Leeds to regret not making a move earlier and will force them to look elsewhere.

Farke needs a new goalkeeper this summer

Leeds need plenty of new additions, though none will be as important as the one who takes the number one shirt.

After a horrid season in the Championship, it is evident that Farke has lost faith in Meslier, leaving Karl Darlow as the next option.

Neither are good enough for the Premier League, and if the Whites are to identify their next shot-stopper, they need to do it quickly or else they run the risk of losing out once again.
