Adidas are exploring the idea of using earlier iterations of the Leeds United badge for the upcoming 2024/25 kits, according to The Athletic.

The online source reported [19 June] that Leeds' "smiley" badge is being considered ahead of next season, taking inspiration from the retro designs at other clubs, such as Arsenal.

It is understood, with Adidas' current deal at Elland Road expiring in 2025, the club are also in talks with suppliers about the following seasons once their contract is up.

One of the main worries about Red Bull's involvement as minority shareholders was the risk of the badge changing for the worse, with fans knowing exactly how difficult it is to get these things right.

There was uproar at Elland Road in 2018 after Leeds unveiled a new badge, displaying a fan enacting the famous club salute to mark a fresh era at Elland Road. This did not go down very well.

Due to the negative feedback, this was quickly changed. However, it seems that Adidas know what they are doing ahead of next season, having implemented similar ideas at other clubs.

The "smiley" badge remains a cult favourite within the club, bringing back memories from Leeds' successful past, which could help form a positive mindset going into next season in the Championship.

Retro kits can have a lot of success when it comes to football, but Adidas will need to be careful not to mess with the design heading into the next campaign.
