Keith Hackett has insisted that Leeds United would likely be unsuccessful with an appeal against Pascal Struijk's red card.

The Dutchman was sent off in the defeat against Liverpool after the bad injury picked up by Harvey Elliott, despite no foul being called initally.

Hackett believes the prior statement from the PGMOL backs up the officials and makes Leeds' case much weaker.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Hackett said, "I think the referee is in a good position, they all acted professional in terms of applying the laws.

"The statement of PGMOL probably closes that off, as they justified the referee's call."

Unlikely.

Marcelo Bielsa spoke out about the red card after the game, backing up Struijk and sending his sympathy to Elliott.

No one can say that the young defender meant to cause injury, as he actually won the ball and the awkward tangle caused the problem.

The Athletic shared that it was the intense challenge and danger caused to the opponent which led to the red card, although it was never his intention.

It looks as though it will be a three-match ban for Struijk, who may not be back until October as things stand right now.
