Simon Wood will be frustrated by decision made on Leeds Women v Stockport

Leeds United Women have had a strong first half of the campaign and went into the Christmas break sitting third in National League Division One, one point away from the top spot.

However, a seven-game unbeaten run came to an end in their last game on 15 December when the Whites lost 2-0 against Fylde.

Simon Wood’s side were set to get back into their WPL Division One season on Sunday (5 January) with a match against Stockport County as they looked to get back on track.

However, due to the weather conditions throughout the UK, the decision to postpone the game was taken on Saturday (4 January) as the Bannister Prentice Stadium failed a pitch inspection.

Simon Wood will be frustrated with Leeds United Women postponement

The loss against Fylde came at a bad time for Leeds as it was ahead of the break in fixtures and therefore means the Whites haven’t had an opportunity to bounce back from it quickly.

However, Wood’s side surely would have been looking towards this game with excitement in the hope of feeling fresh after their break and facing a side sitting eighth in the league.

Therefore, the postponement will have left Wood feeling frustrated as he will no doubt be eager to get back into the season now as his side looks to raise their standards once more in the hope of pushing for the top spot.

Luckily for the Whites, with poor weather across the UK, no one in the league played at the weekend meaning all teams will go into the next set of fixtures having still had the same amount of time off.

Leeds now look towards a clash against Middlesbrough next on 12 January which will be a tougher game with their opponents four points behind them in the table with two games in hand.

Nevertheless, Wood will no doubt be eager to get going with his side again in the hope of a strong second half of the campaign ahead.
