Simon Wood will be buzzing after what happened to Leeds Women’s league rivals

Leeds United Women have had an excellent season so far and sit third in the National League Division One as they look up the table with the hope of promotion this term.

The Whites were did not play over the weekend and are smarting from a 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough Women last time out, having had their first game after the Christmas break postponed against Stockport County the week prior.

A clash against Huddersfield Town awaits on Sunday (26 January) as Simon Wood’s side will be looking to get on a good run of form after a loss against Fylde ahead of the Christmas break.

The West Yorkshire outfit need to pick up points as they sit with 25 points, one away from Chorley and three off Cheadle Town in top spot.

However, they may well have gained a slight boost in their push in the race for promotion after both of their promotion rivals were in county cup action on Sunday (19 January).

Leeds United need to use their rest to their advantage

Both Chorley and Cheadle being in action and winning their games only adds to the minutes facing both sides this term which, although shows success, can take its toll on players as the season goes on.

Leeds on the other hand will be going into the next round of games with plenty of rest and no doubt Wood’s side will be ready to get going again and get off on the right foot.

With only four points separating the Whites from the top spot, every advantage counts and Leeds will need to be on top of their game in the remainder of the campaign to ensure they make it count.

When the end of the season gets closer, both Chorley and Cheadle could find themselves wishing they didn’t have their county cup games to face which would allow their focus to be purely on league action instead.

Sunday’s game against Huddersfield is a big one with the Terriers sitting just three points behind Leeds in the table. However, Wood and his side need to ensure they make it count and hope the extra games will take their toll on those at the top of the table.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have been backed to take advantage of their rivals’ financial situation in an £8million signing.
