Simon Wood shares ‘excellent’ Leeds United Women verdict after 2-0 win over Barnsley Women
Simon Wood believes his Leeds United Women’s team put in an “excellent” performance in their 2-0 home win over Barnsley Women on Sunday (27 October).
This win now has the Whites sitting fourth in the FA Women’s National League Division One North, four points adrift of league leaders, Middlesbrough Women.
Speaking to LUTV after the clash (27 October), Wood shared his verdict on the Whites’ win.
“Yeah, good victory but hard work saw us through,” Wood said.
“We say it week after week with how competitive this league is, Barnsley have come into this year and have been unlucky with results and when we’ve watched games back they’ve been unlucky.
“We said it from the start, we wanted players to put in those eight and nine out of 10 performances and I think the start of the game was excellent for us.
“We knew in the second half they’d come at us and we’d possibly see a different line-up, a different sort of shape from then and I thought we weathered them out well.”
Simon Wood needs Leeds United Women to carry on their run of form
Leeds may have dropped in the table somewhat thanks to other results not going their way but it still feels like the West Yorkshire outfit can produce enough to gain promotion this season.
The Whites recently announced the arrival of Beth Guy from fellow title rivals Middlesbrough and the midfielder made her impact known straight away as she debuted against Barnsley.
Woods’ team have been in decent form this season, winning four of their last five games in the league.
Thanks to the superb form of those above them, however, their efforts have been met with little happiness as they still find themselves a fair distance away from the top spot.

There’s plenty of time left in the season for them to make their way up the table of course and there will obviously be many more opportunities to cut the deficit between themselves and Michael Mulhern’s squad.
Their current run of form is some of the best football they’ve played all season and if they wish to be seen as genuine title contenders, they’ll have to ensure this level of performance keeps up across the term, otherwise, they could be left behind.
In other Leeds news, Dan James is now untouchable in the Leeds United starting XI.
