Simon Wood already sets out Leeds United Women aims for next season

Leeds United Women have had a strong season, although a drop in form after the winter break saw promotion fall out of sight.

The Whites now sit fourth in the table, 10 points away from Middlesbrough at the top of the league, with only one game left this term.

Nevertheless, Simon Wood is keen to end the campaign on a high, with no doubt that his side will be looking to better themselves ahead of next season.

Leeds United see off Chorley

Leeds’ earlier season form proved not to be enough to save them as Wood’s side struggled for rhythm in the second half of the campaign.

The Whites struggled to find consistency in their performances, creating a gap in points between the West Yorkshire outfit and the top of the table.

Leeds’ last five games
Stockport (H)2-0
Barnsley (A)3-2
Norton and Stockton (H)3-0
Huddersfield (A)2-1
Durham (A)2-2
Leeds’ form has been inconsistent.

However, coming into their game against Chorley on Sunday, having seen off Stockport County last time out certainly gave Wood’s squad something to build upon.

The Whites ended their home campaign having risen to the occasion with a massive 4-1 victory against Chorley, who sit one place above them in the table.

Goals from Kath Smith, Shauna Legge and Amy Woodruff were more than enough to see off their home games for another season in strong form.

Wood ready to push Leeds further

Although the points have come a bit too late, beating Chorley, who are above Leeds in the table, serves as a reminder for the Whites that they are one of the top sides in the league.

Wood will be ready to push his side on again next term in the hope of progressing and it would not be surprising to see Chorley up there again too, meaning they are putting their warning out to their opponents already.

The likes of Smith and Woodruff have proven their importance yet again, and if the West Yorkshire outfit can continue to make them part of the spine going forward, it’s already a strong start.

A game against York is the last challenge of the campaign, and given they currently sit tenth in the table, this is a clash that should be easy for Leeds to get through and see off their Yorkshire rivals.

The boss will already be thinking about the summer and how he can improve his side but Leeds are certainly a side in a good place already and the squad seem keen to prove that in the closing of the campaign.
