Simon Wood ‘already has’ secret to winning league with Leeds United Women

Leeds United Women had a great season, but the National League title proved to be too far out of reach for Simon Wood and his squad this term.

With only one promotion spot available for the champions of the league, it was always going to be a tall order for the Whites to get to the very top this term.

However, Wood will surely know that he has solid foundations to build upon next season and put the league title firmly in his sights.

Amy Woodruff receives recognition

The race at the top of the table was tight this season and, although Leeds fell away in the final run, they remained a side that posed a threat.

With 53 goals this season, Wood’s side were the highest scorers in the division, highlighting the threat posed by the Whites.

Leeds were the league’s top scorers.

Amy Woodruff in particular proved to be at the heart of that, putting them away for fun throughout the campaign, showing exactly why the West Yorkshire outfit signed her last summer.

With the season having ended, the National League held the end-of-term awards for its clubs, and Woodruff got her hands on a trophy.

It was announced that the striker won the Golden Boot award thanks to her contributions up top.

With Joel Piroe getting the same accolade for the men’s team, it looks as though there is a real synergy across the squads in West Yorkshire.

Wood has to aim for the top next season

Being the top goal scorers in the division and having the golden boot winner in the squad highlights how close Leeds are to the top.

Woodruff has been the subject of plenty of praise this season and the boss surely must know that retaining the striker is the secret to pushing on even further next term.

Naturally, additions are necessary, and Wood has to be prepared to work hard during the summer to bring in the right faces.

However, the foundations are certainly there to be built upon, and it seems likely that Woodruff will continue to be a central part of that.

The Whites may not have won promotion this term, but personal awards, alongside a County Cup win, highlight how far the side has come.
