Leeds United Women hit by another blow as match v York City Ladies called off

Leeds United Women cannot catch a break at the moment as Wednesday’s (21 February) clash with York City Ladies has been postponed.

The club announced that a pitch inspection would be held at Garforth’s Bannister Prentice Stadium at 3pm.

Unfortunately, it was then decided – as confirmed on the official website [21 February] that the Division One North match could not go ahead because of a waterlogged pitch.

A new date for the fixture has yet to be set, but it is the latest in a succession of disappointments for Simon Wood’s side.

Wood spoke recently about his frustration regarding the “disruption” to the fixture list, with league games few and far between in recent months.

Leeds then saw their league game with Chorley Women – again at Bannister Prentice Stadium – also called off on 11 February.

In between these two postponements, they were eliminated from the West Riding County Cup in a shock loss to Modernians Women.

It means Leeds United Women remain stuck on 12 games played, compared to 16 for leaders Middlesbrough after their game at Durham Cestria.

A fixture backlog now awaits, but Wood will just be grateful to play those games at some point.

Momentum plays a huge part in football – as the men’s senior side are showing – but there is absolutely no chance of that happening for now.
