Charlyann Pizzarello pleased with way Leeds United Women handled heat in routine win
Charlyann Pizzarello admitted the heat played a factor as Leeds United Women battled to a 3-1 victory over York City Ladies.
Leeds made it three wins from three to begin their Women’s National League Division One North campaign – and four from four overall – thanks to two goals from Jess Rousseau and one from Kath Smith.
It was a well-earned win for United against their Yorkshire rivals at LNER Community Stadium, but one that pushed both sets of players to their limit on an unseasonably hot day.

Reflecting on Wednesday’s [6 September] victory, Pizzarello told LUTV [1m, 15s]: “We’re obviously not used to this heat.
“With the water breaks and injuries as well, we were a little scrappy but dug deep, worked hard and did not give up until the end.”
Perfect start continues
The high temperatures perhaps told in the early stages as very little of note happened in the opening 10 minutes of the derby.
Rousseau helped spark United into life with the opener, paving the way for a rather routine win for the Whites as they maintained their 100% start to the campaign.
Pizzarello, a midfielder by trade, has slotted into the back four and has looked assured, though Leeds have yet to keep a clean sheet in four games this campaign.
After a run of away games, it is back to home soil on Sunday [10 September] when Middlesbrough arrive.
All going well, the weekend will end with Leeds sitting nicely at the top of the division.
In other Leeds United news, a Whites player was “bailed out” while representing his country during the international break.
