Simon Wood highlights ‘main difference’ after Leeds United Women thrash Chester FC Women
Leeds United Women manager Simon Wood was delighted with the second-half display from his side as they thrashed Chester FC Women 7-1 to advance in the Women’s FA Cup.
The Whites cruised into the first round proper with a routine victory at Bannister Prentice Stadium in Garforth on Sunday (22 October).
Leeds led by two goals at the interval thanks to goals from Charlyann Pizzarello and Izzy Elliott, before braces from Jess Rousseau and Katie Astle, plus a Kathryn Smith penalty, added gloss to the scoreline.

Asked what inspired the improved second-half display on home soil, Wood told LUTV [22 October]: “Players wanting to get in the box and score a goal – I think that was the main difference.
“We had people going beyond what we need them to do to get in the box and score. There were different types of goals today as well which was pleasing.”
Keep it up
Chester FC play two divisions below Leeds, so this was always a game the Whites were expected to come out on top in.
Still, the manner of the victory will provide Wood’s side with plenty of confidence as they turn focus towards another cup competition next week.
Halifax, currently a division higher than Leeds, await in the second round of the Women’s National League Cup at Bannister Prentice Stadium.
That contest should present United with a tougher test than they experienced this weekend in the third-qualifying round against Chester.
Getting five different scorers on the scoresheet stands Leeds in good stead, and takes their tally for the season to 30 goals in 11 matches in all competitions.
That is quite some going, and means that promotion from the WPL Division One North is very much an attainable target this season.
For now, though, the women’s side will just be focused on advancing in the cups.
In other Leeds United news, a player has hit out at something “silly” he saw in men’s side’s 3-2 win at Norwich City on Saturday (21 October).
