Drew Greene to ‘prove point’ in Leeds United Women final v Halifax
Leeds United Women had an excellent league campaign, although promotion proved to be a step too far as the Whites finished fourth.
With just one promotion spot up for grabs, it’s a tight league, although Simon Wood will be pleased with the progress his side made this term, with the hope of building upon that next term.
There is a chance to end the campaign picking up silverware, though, with the County Cup final taking place against Halifax on Sunday (18 May).

Drew Greene to face former side in cup final
Wood was busy during last summer’s transfer window, making plenty of additions to his side, which has certainly paid off this term.
The boss did well at recruiting from further down the pyramid, too, picking up gems who were experienced and good enough to take the step up.
One of those new additions was Drew Greene, who made the step up to join Leeds from Halifax.
Greene joined alongside Shauna Legge, both of whom have had massive impacts this season.
The Barnsley-born striker is clearly talented, having won the FA Women’s National League Player of the Year and Player of the Year in the 2021/22 season after her campaign with Halifax, then Brighouse Town.
Thankfully, Greene has taken to life in a higher league like a duck to water, contributing plenty of goals to her side’s push this season.
Position | Goals for | Goals against | Points |
4 | 53 | 32 | 41 |
Therefore, the Leeds player will no doubt be eager to prove a point in front of her former side in the County Cup, showing why she was deserving of taking the step up.

Leeds United looking towards silverware
Although Wood will have been impressed with the progress of his side and what they achieved this season, coming away with nothing to show for it is always disappointing.
Therefore, the County Cup final provides a great opportunity to end a strong season on a high and celebrate.
What’s more, getting their hands on silverware now will give the Whites a big boost ahead of next season, knowing they want to replicate that feeling by getting their hands on the league title.
Leeds do come into the game as favourites, as the higher-ranked side, while Halifax finished one place above bottom place in their league.
However, having not played since the season ended at the end of April, there will be cobwebs to dust off.
Therefore, Wood needs his side and Greene to be at the top of their game, with no room to underestimate their opponents.
