Darcie Greene previews Leeds United Women trip to Blackburn – ‘Every game is a challenge’

Leeds Women are back in FA WNL Division One North action on Sunday as they travel to Blackburn Rovers.

Simon Wood’s side returned to winning ways last time out with a 3-2 victory against Chester Le Street Town.

The Whites currently sit second in the table, two points behind West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town as the promotion race heats up.

At the same time, Blackburn remain locked to the bottom of the division, having won just once all season.

Ahead of Sunday’s clash, Leeds defender Darcie Greene has expressed how challenging the coming months will be after a string of postponements since the turn of the year.

Darcie Greene prepared for tough Blackburn challenge

Speaking ahead of the match, Whites defender Green insisted in an interview with the club’s official website that Leeds are prepared for a tough challenge, despite Rovers’ precarious positioning at the bottom of the standings.

“We are really looking forward to the game against Blackburn this weekend,” Greene said. “We know that every game is a challenge in this league, and we’re looking to get the three points again.

“It was difficult to take losing against Huddersfield last week. I think we deserved more from the game.

“Winning on Sunday against Chester Le was a good feeling, but I feel like we didn’t perform up to our standards and we still had more to give. Hopefully we can take that into this weekend’s game.”

On the return to a regular fixture schedule, Greene added: “It feels good to be playing again.” This is after Leeds had faced multiple postponements since the turn of the year.

“It’s hard to gain momentum when you’re not playing and also maintain match fitness, so when games get called off it’s difficult but we just have to keep going and make sure we are ready,” Greene said.

“We know that Blackburn recently picked up a win against Chester Le Street, so they will be in high spirits, we will be working hard in training this week and be looking to get the win.”

Leeds will aim to build momentum despite disrupted schedule

Leeds will head into Sunday’s clash looking to complete the double over Blackburn after a dominant 7-0 victory in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

However, Simon Wood’s side have endured a heavily disrupted schedule in 2026 after several fixtures were postponed during the winter period.

League matches against York City, Wythenshawe and Chester Le Street were all called off earlier in the year, while the Whites’ away clash with Doncaster Rovers Belles in February was also postponed, and rescheduled for next week.

Leeds Women’s next five matches:

With the Whites sitting just two points behind leaders Huddersfield Town, navigating the rest of what is set to be a packed month will be crucial if they carry title ambitions, before they close out the campaign with matches against Wythenshawe, Norton & Stockton Ancients and Stockport County.
