Wilfried Gnonto’s final Leeds United dance came to sorry end after an abysmal showing vs West Ham

Wilfried Gnonto looks likely to have played his final game for Leeds United, and he didn’t get what he deserved once again in the defeat to West Ham United on Sunday.

The Whites’ season came to a negative end with the 3-0 defeat to the Hammers in East London, as a summer of change is now expected in LS11.

Daniel Farke‘s future at Elland Road is uncertain, but if he does stay, the end is nigh for a multitude of players, including Gnonto.

The Italian came off the bench in the defeat to West Ham, and failed to have the desired impact, with some fans once again suggesting his exit is required following the conclusion of the match.

Gnonto could be joining Bundesliga side Freiburg, with his story at Leeds looking all but over, in what was a fairly sad ending.

Wilfried Gnonto looks set to leave Leeds United on sad note

Gnonto has already hinted at his Leeds departure when he posted a “thank you, Elland Road” message to his Instagram, suggesting his near four-year stay with the club is over this summer.

German side Freiburg are said to be pushing hard to sign the winger, as Leeds are also reportedly open to his sale or a loan exit that includes an option to buy.

Gnonto for Leeds vs West Ham

The 22-year-old is said to be valued in the region of £10million by the Whites, a fee that could help the 49ers reinvest elsewhere this summer.

However, Leeds fans know that the forward’s ceiling is sky high, which makes his expected exit even more disappointing.

Had the Whites handled his treatment in a better manner, this summer could have seen a chance for them to loan the player out, giving him an opportunity to come back as a refined star.

His proposed exit will be controversial, but the performance at the London Stadium meant he looks likely to bow out of Leeds in a negative manner, which is the last thing he deserves.

Daniel Farke didn’t give Gnonto a proper chance; here’s why

When Leeds’ Premier League survival was secured, Farke had a chance to give the likes of Joel Piroe, Facundo Buonanotte, and Gnonto a chance to impress, but he didn’t do that.

Bringing players off the bench for short spells isn’t going to make any difference; it’s a small window of opportunity for someone to sway a manager’s mind.

In what world is the above a fair way to treat a player who has contributed to where Farke and Leeds find themselves right now?

Okay, he hasn’t always offered the threat off the bench, but it’s hard to expect much of a player who probably isn’t match fit and doesn’t have the sharpness from a lack of game time.

If Freiburg do sign Gnonto, let’s hope the people who have negative views towards Gnonto stay in the same lane if he starts doing well in Germany, because there’s a good chance he will shine with patience and trust.
