Wilfried Gnonto could follow Ao Tanaka footsteps as ‘disappointing’ Leeds claim made
Wilfried Gnonto could join Ao Tanaka in departing Leeds United this summer.
It was reported on Wednesday that Tanaka is already eyeing an exit from Elland Road, having been restricted to just seven Premier League starts this season.
Leeds are said to be willing to sanction his exit for a fee in the region of £9million, which would be over triple what they paid for him back in 2024.
Nevertheless, the reaction to Tanaka’s pending exit has been as expected, with many still reminiscing about the impact he had in Leeds’ promotion season.
And the same may happen with Gnonto, who has also been linked with an exit from Leeds over the last 12 months.

Leeds United could lose Wilfried Gnonto
Gnonto is a talented footballer, but for whatever reason, Daniel Farke has very rarely utilised him, even when they have been chasing a goal.
Just as it has with Tanaka, that lack of gametime will lead to plenty of frustration, and rightfully so.
| Premier League | Gnonto |
| Matches (starts) | 16 (4) |
| Minutes played | 380 |
| Goal involvements | 1 |
| Dribble success rate | 11.1% |
| Chances created | 6 |
Gnonto was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia earlier this season, as revealed by MOT Leeds News, and that interest is unlikely to have diminished.
After the minimal role he had in Leeds’ FA Cup win over West Ham, Gnonto expressed the frustration he had over his lack of involvement.

As quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post, he said: “I would say disappointing on a personal level. I always have high expectations for myself, but obviously, I wanted to play more.
Farke may have seven games to persuade Gnonto to stay at Elland Road, or else he could be set to lose two of the players who played a crucial role in getting the Whites back into the Premier League.
How much would Leeds get for Gnonto?
In February last year, it was claimed that Leeds were set to hold out for a fee in the region of £50m for Gnonto, which was fair at the time.
He was a young forward thriving in the Championship.
But now, Leeds would do well to get even half of that, given the lack of gametime has had over the last 12 months.
At that price, the question would emerge as to whether it would even be worth selling him, but if the Italian wants a move, Leeds may have no choice.
