Sam Byram seemed to suggest that he would be open to leaving Leeds United this summer.

The 32-year-old signed a one-year deal last summer, which will see his contract expire at the end of the season.

Byram has played 223 times for the Elland Road side in two spells in LS11, but his time with the club may be coming to an end.

He has admitted that he would like to play regularly, which is something that the Whites can’t offer him at the moment.

Leeds would probably be happy to keep him as a backup option, but he likely wants to play a more permanent role.

What did Byram say about Leeds contract?

Leeds star Byram could be destined for a return to the Championship, as he has hardly been used this season.

He has featured just once in the Premier League, and he clearly feels that he could be a starter at a different club.

Speaking about his situation to the Official Leeds United Podcast on 12 May, he said:

Why Leeds need to make official announcement

Leeds need to make an official announcement if Byram is departing, and allow supporters to say a proper goodbye to the defender.

He has been a brilliant servant to the club, helping them to secure promotion last season, featuring 36 times for Daniel Farke‘s side.

The Whites have absolutely nothing to play for in terms of relegation, as they are mathematically confirmed to be in the top-flight next season, so there is no harm in giving Byram a few minutes to have a farewell with the support.

They should not stand in his way when it comes to an exit, as he clearly wants to play more often based on his contract comments, but they should give him the send-off that he deserves after his service.

His second spell has ended on a positive note, with the academy graduate playing a part in putting his side back where they belong, and his contributions should be acknowledged, even if he has hardly featured this season.
