Raheem Sterling to Leeds United could happen after all as early Feyenoord exit expected
Raheem Sterling could be set to receive some attention from Leeds United once more as his stay at Feyenoord is expected to come to an abrupt end soon.
The Whites were linked with the former Premier League winger in the January transfer window, after his deal with Chelsea was terminated, making him a free agent.
Leeds were said to be one of the several teams interested in the 31-year-old, but it was Robin van Persie’s Feyenoord who beat everyone else to his signature.
However, according to the Mirror, the Englishman will not be staying with the Dutch side beyond this season.
Leeds could go back in for Sterling this summer and try to rejuvenate the player’s form from his days at Manchester City.

Would Raheem Sterling still be a good signing for Leeds?
Sterling was open to joining Leeds, as the winger kept his options open for multiple clubs before deciding Feyenoord was his best choice.
The versatile forward will have had multiple reasons as to why he thought a move to the Netherlands was best, but it clearly hasn’t worked out.
| Area of game | Stats |
| Matches (starts) | 6 (4) |
| Goals and assists | 1 |
| Minutes played | 333 |
| Pass accuracy | 80% |
| Dribble success | 16.7% |
Sterling has been limited to just over 300 minutes of league football since joining Feyenoord, and was recently heavily criticised by Dutch media for his display in the side’s 0-0 draw against FC Volendam this month.
His career in general has gone a bit pear shaped since leaving Manchester City, as moves to Chelsea, Arsenal, and now Feyenoord have all been underwhelming.

With Sterling set to become a free agent once more this summer, the 49ers could see a good opportunity to explore the cheap market once again, though his wages could be costly.
People will have their own opinion on whether the Whites should take a gamble on him, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a prime example of why trusting free agents can sometimes be beneficial.
What has Robin van Persie said about Sterling?
Sterling was once a serial Premier League winner with Man City, earning love from Pep Guardiola and becoming a regular starter in the England squad.
He had multiple seasons where he broke double figures for goals, especially with City, where he won 12 trophies in total.
Sterling’s record for Manchester City:
- Games: 339
- Goals: 131
- Assists: 84
Van Persie has sounded frustrated while speaking to the Dutch media about Sterling in the past, particularly after the draw to FC Volendam.
The Feyenoord head coach said: “Those two worlds need to align sooner rather than later. I believe that he’s making steps in terms of fitness, in terms of what he delivers. At the same time, I want to see more impact off the ball, more impact on the ball.”
So his due exit is no surprise, but there’s still a player there for Leeds to revive.
