Mohamed Salah exit: How Elland Road proved beginning of the end for Liverpool star

Mohamed Salah has decided to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, with Leeds United playing their part in his downfall.

The Egypt international has been a shadow of his former self this campaign after years at an elite level in the Premier League.

Despite winning the Premier League at Anfield last season, the forward’s form has been indicative of the struggles that Arne Slot’s side has faced.

Champions League qualification may even be a struggle, and the situation surrounding the 33-year-old certainly hasn’t helped.

Salah is now set to depart Liverpool in the summer, and it’s fair to say his outburst at Elland Road played its fair share in what has gone down since.

Mohamed Salah comments after Elland Road draw said it all

The Reds won the Premier League last season with total ease as Arsenal fell well short as their closest title challengers.

Things have been different this season, and Slot’s side have struggled against most sides, as proven in the 3-3 draw away to Leeds.

Daniel Farke’s men sealed a point back in December and were good value for that as they went toe to toe with the champions.

Salah was an unused substitute that day and went on to slam Slot in a post-match interview with journalists at Elland Road.

In an explosive rant, he said: “I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager, and all of a sudden, we don’t have any relationship.

“I don’t know why, but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn’t want me in the club. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That is how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.”

Salah could have got Slot sacked with his comments at Elland Road, and it seems as if it prompted the beginning of the end for the Egyptian at Anfield.

Why Leeds United will be glad to see back of Salah

Leeds may have been relegated and spent two seasons in the Championship, but that hasn’t stopped the forward from racking up a healthy goal tally against them.

Salah has featured against the Whites six times and has only ever lost once, while winning four and drawing the other.

Across those outings, he has scored nine goals and assisted one, with Liverpool as a collective scoring 21 in those fixtures.

It speaks volumes that the ex-Chelsea man missed out on both games this season and still has such a healthy output against the Yorkshire outfit.

Salah is seemingly now on his way out of the Premier League, something that will be music to the ears of Farke and his players.
