Max Wober contract latest: Everything Leeds fans need to know amid latest injury news
Leeds United were perhaps hoping to offload Max Wober next summer, but the situation may have been complicated.
The Austrian defender was sent on loan to Werder Bremen for the 2025-26 campaign, but his spell in Germany has not gone to plan.
Wober has missed 24 games for the Bundesliga outfit, and he may be set to return to Elland Road at the end of the season.
Leeds had inserted a buy option in the deal, but the 28-year-old has revealed that he is still not ready to return to full fitness.

What has Wober said about injury return?
Wober has struggled with injuries away from Leeds all season, in his first game for Bremen in August, sustained a hamstring injury which kept him out until December.
He was an unused substitute for the 0-0 draw with Augsburg on 20 December despite making the matchday squad, and then suffered a further issue which has kept him out since.
Speaking on his return to action to 1x1Sport Fußballtrainer podcast, he said: “I’m not far from being fit, but I still can’t get back to running and playing football completely pain-free. I hope this appointment will help me and that I can be back on the pitch in two weeks.”

“Hopefully, after the international break, I’ll at least have five or six games where I can give my all for the club.”
What is Wober’s contract situation with Leeds?
Wober is under contract with the Whites until the summer of 2027, still on the original deal that he signed when he joined the LS11 club.
There have been no indications that he will sign a new deal at Elland Road, and Wober has in fact, claimed that the club want to sell him, which is evident from the buyout clause.
He said: “Leeds has already made it clear to me that they want to sell me.”
The only reason why it was not a permanent deal in the first place was because a loan worked out better for the Yorkshire side’s Profit and Sustainability standing.
What does Farke think about Wober?
Farke clearly does not rate the former Red Bull Salzburg man, as he has fallen down the pecking order behind the likes of Pascal Struijk, Joe Rodon, Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw.
His relationship with Wober had fallen part, judging from comments from Austrian journalist Peter Linden in July 2025.
Farke was reportedly angry with the fact that Wober left for Borussia Monchengladbach on loan after their relegation to the Championshipin 2023, rather than staying and helping the Peacocks’ promotion bid.
He said: “Daniel Farke was angry with him for going out on loan after relegation instead of staying.”
It appears that there is no way back for the defender at Thorp Arch, but it appears that Bremen will not activate their option to purchase him, so the 49ers Enterprises group will have to find a different solution to get rid.
