Mateo Joseph making Leeds United summer transfer call an easy one – here’s why
Leeds United will have some big transfer calls to make on a host of players this summer.
With Daniel Farke’s side still looking to confirm their place in the Premier League for next season, all the focus at Elland Road will be on the task at hand of staying in the division.
Leeds are just three points above the relegation zone, and will need to start improving upon their recent form if they are to put any fears of dropping back into the Championship to bed.
Regardless of what league Leeds are plying their trade in for 2026-27, a busy summer transfer window is expected at Elland Road, with either a promotion bid or the aim of kicking on in the top flight to prepare for.

How is Mateo Joseph faring with Mallorca this season?
One of a host of fringe players allowed to leave Leeds in this season’s summer window, striker Mateo Joseph signed for Mallorca on loan for the duration of the 2025-26 campaign.
The 22-year-old joined Leeds back in January 2022 from Spanish side Espanyol, and after quickly turning heads in the Whites’ youth ranks, it wasn’t long before he was in the first-team picture at Elland Road.
Making 41 total appearances and providing six goal contributions for Leeds last season, Joseph wasn’t deemed to be ready for a sizeable role in the Premier League, and as such, was granted a temporary exit back to his homeland.
However, both he and Mallorca haven’t enjoyed a brilliant season so far, with his side currently sitting 18th in LaLiga, one point from safety behind Elche in 17th respectively.

As per Sofascore, Joseph is averaging just 0.08 goals per game in LaLiga this season, whilst he’s also missed six big chances and is only on the pitch for an average of 58 minutes per match.
He’s also won just 39 per cent of his total duels, registered a dribble success rate of 52 per cent, and is averaging a mere 21.2 touches per game respectively.
Overall, these aren’t the kind of numbers that will be catching Leeds’ eye, and surely won’t be enough to win him a role should the Whites remain in the Premier League for next season.
Indeed, they might not even be enough to raise confidence levels back in West Yorkshire that should Farke’s side drop back into the Championship, that Joseph has progressed enough to lead the line for them in the second tier.
His only two league goals this season came in the same game, when he bagged a brace against Sevilla in a 3-1 win back on 18 October 2025, and he’s not found the net in any competition since.
What is Joseph’s contract situation with Leeds?
So, unless Joseph can improve his form between now and the end of the LaLiga season, he looks likely to be making a permanent exit from Leeds this summer.
But how strong of a hand can do Leeds have when it comes to his contract? Can they hold out for a fee they feel is fair, or would they not hold the cards at the negotiating table opposite a potential buying club?
Well, Joseph did pen a long-term extension at Elland Road back in January 2024, meaning he’s contracted to Leeds until the summer of 2028.
Therefore, Leeds would be in a strong position to get the transfer fee they feel reflects his current ability, but it would be interesting to see how hot of a market he would/wouldn’t have this summer if the Whites do decide to sell.
