Mateo Joseph: Leeds United future looks bleak as Daniel Farke refuses to rule out exit

Mateo Joseph’s season-ending injury on loan at Mallorca has cast further doubts over his future at Leeds United.

Joseph was once seen as the next big thing at Elland Road, but it became apparent very quickly that he was not going to live up to his potential.

Daniel Farke opted against giving him much of a chance in the Championship, and that would continue in the Premier League before he moved back to his home country to join Mallorca on loan.

However, things went from bad to worse for the striker, who suffered an ACL injury in Spain, which would rule him out not just for the season, but also likely for several months after the conclusion of it.

As it stands, Joseph is due to return to Leeds this summer, but his stay may be short.

What has Daniel Farke said about Mateo Joseph?

With Leeds’ Premier League status still on the line, it is perhaps understandable that Farke has said very little about the situation.

However, if a player were to have a future at Elland Road, there would be very little reason to avoid saying it, which is what the German did.

As quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post, he said: “At the moment my full focus is just on the players here and our task, I’m not willing to speak on anything in the future, loan players, potential signings, recruitment or whatever.”

Given the lack of gametime he has handed to him prior to the current campaign, it feels rather unlikely that it would change this summer.

And with Farke refusing to rule out an exit for Joseph, it’s perhaps fair to say that his future with the Whites is looking bleak.

Where could Joseph end up this summer?

There is a chance that Mallorca look to bring Joseph in on a permanent deal, though several English clubs had also been keen.

As revealed by MOT Leeds News, Wrexham are keen on a deal for Joseph, though that would hinge on their ability to win promotion to the Premier League.

A move back to Spain seems the most likely option for the striker, who may have to wait several months for that to become a reality, given his current injury status.
