Leeds United want Europe’s most reliable centre-back as Danilho Doekhi stance clear

Leeds United are clearly serious about their interest in Union Berlin defender Danilho Doekhi ahead of the summer transfer window.

Doekhi recently emerged as a possible target for the Whites, who now look certain to confirm another season of Premier League football.

Daniel Farke can realistically start planning for next season, with the German’s future now no longer a topic of debate.

Leeds will have the chance to strengthen what they have in a number of positions, with a new centre-back seemingly on the list.

And in Doekhi, Leeds could potentially sign the most reliable centre-back of them all.

What’s now been reported on Leeds’ interest in Danilho Doekhi?

Doekhi has a number of admirers across Europe after impressing for Union Berlin once again this summer.

The 27-year-old has not missed a single minute of Bundesliga action over the past two seasons, making him the most reliable player around in his position.

Danilho Doekhi in the Bundesliga this season

And as per a new update via Fabrizio Romano on X on Wednesday morning, Leeds and Borussia Dortmund are two of the sides interested in Doekhi.

The fact Leeds continue to be namechecked in the race to sign the former Netherlands Under-21s international shows they are clearly eager to strike a deal.

Doekhi is said to be ready to leave Union Berlin, with his availability as a free agent making him an even more tempting aquisition.

As well as playing every league minute over the past two seasons, Doekhi has also chipped in with seven goals.

Doekhi speculation spells more bad news for Joe Rodon

Staying in the Premier League is of course a huge positive for Leeds, but the irony is that those who have helped keep them there may become surplus to requirements.

Joe Rodon is one of those whose form has dropped off and, should another centre-back come in, it may well be that he is first through the Elland Road exit.

Danilho Doekhi contract

This is nothing new in football, of course. Teams move through cycles and players are upgraded all the time.

For now, every player in the squad is focusing on keeping Leeds in the Premier League when they are called upon.

Beyond that, it will soon become a lot clearer what the future holds for each of them.
