Leeds United set to be faced with transfer regret as Wilfried Gnonto exit news emerges

Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto is in talks over an exit from Elland Road.

Daniel Farke has done a tremendous job with the Whites back in the Premier League, and for that, he deserves his plaudits.

However, even throughout what has been a successful campaign, some of his decisions have been baffling to say the least.

Ao Tanaka’s omission for the majority of the season certainly raised eyebrows, especially after the Japan international returned to the team and showed his worth.

Gnonto is another who has been cast aside at Leeds, and he looks set for an exit in the summer, which may come with plenty of regret.

Freiburg in Wilfried Gnonto talks

A report from Florian Plettenberg states that Freiburg have already started talks with Gnonto, with a view to a summer transfer.

The Whites are said to be open to a permanent exit or a loan exit, though the latter would come with an obligation to buy at the end of the season.

Straight away, for a Europa League finalist to see value in the Italian certainly begs the question as to why a newly promoted Premier League club can’t.

Gnonto still has bags of potential and ability as showcased last season in the Championship, and an exit from Elland Road would almost certainly spark regret further down the line.

Leeds have other exit priorities this summer

Gnonto is far from an issue at Elland Road, and he is certainly not among the first few that should be shipped out.

Dan James has struggled massively in the top flight, and his exit would make far more sense this summer.

The only way Leeds should entertain offers for Gnonto is if the fee involved is substantial, knowing that they can bring better in to replace him and progress in the Premier League.
