Leeds United are said to be eyeing a move for James Trafford this summer.

While Premier League survival remains the goal for Leeds, those at Elland Road will already be putting plans in place regarding their summer recruitment.

And towards the top of the list of pritoiies is a new goalkeeper, with Lucas Perri, Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow all having failed to showcase their worth over the last 12 months.

Several goalkeepers have been linked with a move to Leeds, as they look to rectify that concern regardless of which division they are in.

But with Trafford mooted for a move to Elland Road, the Whites must take note of how Sunderland, in particular, have forged their recent success.

James Trafford transfer isn’t how Leeds should operate

Trafford would be a great signing for Leeds, and he has showcased throughout his time with Burnley and City just how good a goalkeeper he is.

Whether it be saving shots or playing the ball out from the back, the Englishman is exactly what Leeds have been missing.

However, the issue is likely to be with the fee.

Given his homegrown status, age and the club he is playing for, the Whites would have to stump up a significant amount of money to bring him to Elland Road.

And when taking into account how Sunderland have gone about their recruitment, it may not be necessary if the Whites delve into the European market with a data-led approach.

The Black Cats have signed a handful of unknown gems for more than respectable fees who have gone on to become stars in the Premier League, and that should be something that Leeds look to do this summer.

All fingers point back to Lukas Hornicek transfer

And in regard to potentially cheaper options that can be just as impactful, Lukas Hornicek remaisn an option.

As revealed by MOT Leeds News, Hornicek has attracted interest from Leeds, and given his predicament, he would cost far less than Trafford.

Those are the types of transfers that help a newly-promoted side solidify their Premier League status, while also putting themselves in good standing financially.
