Leeds United must have Harry Gray plan in place as Rotherham United spell comes to end

Leeds United are set to welcome Harry Gray back over the summer, after the youngster’s loan spell with Rotherham United.

After featuring as an unused substitute in the Premier League, the 17-year-old would make the move to South Yorkshire on loan, where he would score three times as the Millers were relegated to League Two.

With brother Archie Gray making a big move to Tottenham in 2024, the hope is that the young star could become a permanent fixture at Elland Road in the coming years.

With 43 points on the board, the Whites’ top-flight future is all but secured, meaning that Daniel Farke and the hierarchy can begin looking to the future.

And with Gray’s future in mind, MOT Leeds News takes a look at what could come next for the youngster.

Championship step up could be an option for Harry Gray and Leeds

A graduate of the academy at Thorpe Arch, Gray is the next in the family production line, with great uncle Eddie, grandfather Frank and Andy Gray all playing for the Whites.

Tasting his first few months of senior football, the 17-year-old impressed in a remarkably poor Rotherham side.

Operating either on the left flank or up top, Gray has been cutting his teeth in the physical lower tiers, while continuing to learn his trade as he aims to progress at Leeds.

With this in mind, a loan switch to the lower end of the Championship, or to a side aiming for promotion in League One could be the next best thing for him.

Either way, playing in the EFL would be a fantastic way for him to continue getting senior minutes under his belt while he develops, alongside the fact that he would hopefully gain experience in a side playing a much closer style to that of Leeds.

The style of play will be important, with it being vital that Gray is in a team where he is not just getting minutes, but where he is able to play a pivotal role with the ball at his feet, while playing on the front foot.

Leeds will look to avoid similar Archie Gray fate

After a productive spell with Rotherham, Gray looks a potential future star for Leeds. The club will hope he does not follow in brother Archie’s footsteps, who joined Tottenham in the summer of 2024 after an impressive Championship campaign.

Leeds are well placed to secure Premier League survival, and the hope is that Gray’s progress keeps pace so Farke can integrate him into the first team sooner rather than later.

The crucial factor, though, is whether Leeds can offer a high enough level of football – something they could not provide for Archie.

Following in the footsteps of some big names at the club, another Gray excelling for Leeds would mean the world to supporters. They cannot afford to let this one slip, as they did almost two years ago.
