Leeds United have gotten the most out of Gabriel Gudmundsson since his summer move.

The Sweden international has been a regular at the back for the Whites and has represented a positive piece of business.

As a left-wing back in Daniel Farke’s five at the back formation, he has flourished and shown his qualities at both ends of the pitch.

That makes it all the more frustrating for the Yorkshire outfit when he is unavailable due to injury, like he is right now.

Gudmundsson has been a great signing for Leeds, but his injury situation could leave many questioning his contract details at Elland Road.

The defender was signed from Lille, and his experience at the top level has proven to be useful at Elland Road this campaign.

He has been a regular under Farke and has started all but one Premier League game, with just one appearance coming as a substitute.

Gudmundsson joined Leeds from the Ligue 1 side for just £10million and he has proven to be worth that fee throughout the campaign.

The left-back put pen to paper on a four-year deal in LS11 that could keep him in Yorkshire until the summer of 2029.

Reports suggest that he is being paid a weekly wage of £40,000 throughout that contract, equating to a yearly salary in the region of £2m.

That appears to be money well spent, although Gudmundsson’s injury situation at Leeds may represent a growing concern.

Being an international footballer is obviously a plus, but it also comes with risks for clubs.

Leeds are currently dealing with the problems it can cause after the 26-year-old picked up an injury while away with Sweden.

Farke confirmed that he has a groin issue that he picked up over the March break and is facing a race back to fitness.

He said: “Gabi has made some progress. He came back with some light groin problems after the international games, so he is making light progress.”

That is a blow for the Whites and will be met by hope that this won’t become a recurring issue for Gudmundsson at Elland Road.
