Leeds United could return for Federico Gatti transfer as ‘sacrifice’ on cards

Leeds United have been linked with a move for centre-back Federico Gatti, who Juventus are willing to sell in the upcoming transfer window.

According to Calrciomercato.it on 9 April, the Serie A giants could “sacrifice” the eight-cap Italy international to raise funds in the summer.

The news outlet reports that the Whites are among the teams that could return to the fray to sign the 27-year-old defender, who is valued at around £21.7million.

It’s been claimed that any interested parties may offer to increase the defender’s current £5m-a-year salary to convince him to leave the Allianz Stadium.

Premier League survival will be key for 49ers Enterprises to further invest in Daniel Farke’s team in the summer and it remains to be seen what the future holds for the West Yorkshire outfit.

Federico Gatti season in numbers amid Leeds United interest

Gatti hasn’t been the first name on the teamsheet for Luciano Spalletti this season, making 16 Serie A appearances and starting just 11 of them.

The defender is decent in the air, scoring two goals for the Italian club in the league, with 0.4 shots on target per game, and has won 66 per cent of his aerial duels, as per Sofascore.

Juventus have had a mixed season as they compete for a Champions League spot, with Gatti keeping two clean sheets in Serie A, averaging 0.8 interceptions, 0.6 tackles and 3.1 clearances per game.

The Italian defender has been dribbled past 0.2 times per game, recovered the ball 2.6 times and committed one error that led to a goal.

Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw have struggled for game time this season and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them demand an exit in the summer.

Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon have also put in some impressive displays in recent months, but it’s hard to see Leeds letting go of them if they stay in the Premier League.

Farke’s squad may need some reinforcements at the back ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, and Gatti seems like a perfect experienced candidate to add depth in defence.

For now, the West Yorkshire outfit’s sole focus is on avoiding relegation and fans will think about the summer once that’s confirmed.
