Leeds setting themselves up for failure as new Joe Gelhardt price tag emerges
Leeds United have slapped a new price tag on Joe Gelhardt, according to reports.
Gelhardt is impressing during his second loan stint at Hull City in the Championship but faces an uncertain future at his parent club, for whom he has not played since October 2024.
The 23-year-old has scored 13 goals and recorded five assists so far this campaign, having not been included in Daniel Farke‘s first-team plans at Elland Road.
Despite his strong form at the MKM Stadium, the striker is not believed to have a long-term future with the Whites. As a result, they are now weighing up his valuation.
Hull want Gelhardt to stay, but they will have to fend off numerous other suitors.

What is Leeds’ Joe Gelhardt price tag?
Gelhardt will have just 12 months remaining on his Leeds contract this summer, so would not command a hefty transfer fee. However, the Yorkshire side have gone far too low.
Scottish giants Rangers are among those keeping a close eye on the frontman, and according to Weekend Sports journalist Sebastien Vidal, they have the green light to swoop.
| Campaign | Club | Appearances | Goals |
| 2025/26 | Hull City (loan) | 35 | 13 |
| 2025 | Hull City (loan) | 20 | 5 |
| 2023 | Sunderland (loan) | 20 | 3 |
| 2020-present | Leeds United | 58 | 4 |
| 2018-2020 | Wigan Athletic | 21 | 1 |
The reporter has claimed that the Whites are open to allowing Gelhardt to leave for a fee of between £3million to £5m. At least on paper, that’s embarrassingly meagre.
While his career at Leeds hasn’t taken off, he has proven his razor-sharp ability inside the box time and again, making him a very attractive proposition indeed for a host of clubs.
There is plenty of competition, but letting him slip through their fingers for such a paltry return makes zero sense. Instead, they should be demanding as much as they can.

Paraag Marathe must remember that it is his responsibility to extract as much value from departures as he possibly can. In light of that, bids of around £10m seem more reasonable.
Gelhardt should command big fee
The ace has contributed to 17 goals in the Championship so far this campaign, which would make him a very cost-effective addition to Leeds’ squad should they be relegated.
Unsurprisingly, Hull owner Acun Ilicali is keen to sign Gelhardt permanently, but he will have to wait until the end of June due to transfer restrictions imposed on the club.
It is clear that Gelhardt deserves an opportunity to prove himself in the top-flight, but Daniel Farke is not inclined to agree, hence the efforts to source him a new club.
Selling him already appears to be a mistake. However, not commanding enough money, especially considering his red-hot form this season, is downright indefensible.
