Joe Gelhardt makes Leeds United exit wish known as Hull City stay interested

Joe Gelhardt has shared that he wants to extend his stay at Hull City following his loan away from Leeds United.

Gelhardt is currently on his second loan stint at the MKM Stadium and has not featured competitively for the Whites since October 2024.

The English striker has been in top form for the Tigers this season, as they eye a potential promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

Now, with the season beginning to come to a close, the future of Gelhardt is back on the agenda.

The striker himself has now made an admission about a potential move away from Leeds in the summer.

What has Joe Gelhardt said about staying at Hull City?

With Gelhardt’s form in the Championship, Leeds will have a decision to make over the future of the Englishman this summer.

However, that decision may be taken out of their hands with the wishes of the player now emerging.

According to BBC journalist James Hoggarth, the Leeds loanee has told him that “he’d like to stay beyond his loan at Hull City.”

Nothing concrete about that possibility has yet to emerge, and it seems it is nothing more than the wishes of the player so far.

With Gelhardt contributing to 17 goals in the Championship this season for Hull City, keeping him around next season may be a cost-effective way to improve squad depth.

Additionally, if the Whites are to get relegated, they would have a proven goalscorer in the second tier already at their disposal.

This makes a decision as to whether to adhere to the striker’s wishes all the more complicated.

Who could Gelhardt replace in Leeds’ squad next season?

Joel Piroe is not trusted by Daniel Farke in the Premier League, so an exit for the now-Suriname international is likely on the cards.

Gelhardt could then come into the squad and take Piroe’s place, meaning the Whites could utilise their funds elsewhere across the pitch.

However, convincing the Liverpool-born forward to stay and fight for his place when he would have guaranteed game time at Hull would be difficult.

Efforts to keep the 23-year-old would be further made harder if the Tigers get promoted with the Peacocks being relegated.

There is certainly plenty to consider ahead of the summer transfer window at Elland Road.
