Jaka Bijol should be one of the Leeds United players Daniel Farke builds around next season.

The Slovenia international joined the Whites from Udinese last summer and has become a key player after a slow start to the 2025-26 campaign.

Against Burnley, the defender started his sixth consecutive Premier League game, highlighting his increasing importance under the German manager.

In the 3-1 victory, the 27-year-old was credited with an assist for Anton Stach’s long-range goal, although fans will wonder how much that really counted for.

Apart from contributing offensively, the centre-back was defensively resolute as the West Yorkshire outfit kept the Clarets at bay for most of the game.

Bijol has proven his worth at Elland Road and it’s now up to the 49-year-old head coach to make him feel wanted in LS11.

Bijol’s importance at Leeds has risen since Farke’s switch to a five-at-the-back, with Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk the other first-choice defenders.

Over 90 minutes against Burnley, the Slovenia international recorded seven defensive contributions, made five clearances, five recoveries and won six of his eight duels, as per Sofascore.

The centre-back was also secure with the ball, completing 86 per cent of his passes, with one ending up being key.

Bijol had 72 touches at Elland Road, highlighting his involvement in the game as Mike Jackson’s team were stifled, especially in the first half, recording an xG of 0.06 in the opening 45 minutes.

The German manager should build his team around the three quality centre-backs at the West Yorkshire outfit and it would be surprising to see Bijol leave anytime soon.

Fiorentina wanted Bijol in the winter transfer window and the defender’s future seemed uncertain due to the lack of regular game time in the months prior.

The Slovenian ace will surely be attracting interest in the summer after some decent performances for Leeds, but Farke’s answer must be no.

As things stand, the former Udinese centre-back is pivotal to the West Yorkshire outfit’s plans and blocking his exit would be a no-brainer.

A long summer is ahead for the Peacocks, and apart from signing quality players, they must ensure they don’t lose any of their key stars.
