How Sam Greenwood is doing in Poland since £3.45m Leeds United transfer: Form and stats
Sam Greenwood was once one of Leeds United‘s most exciting young talents.
Having joined Leeds from Arsenal’s academy system in the summer of 2020, Greenwood quickly began turning heads at Thorp Arch.
He won the Premier League 2’s player of the month award in September of that same year, and would soon make his Whites first-team debut in January 2021 in the FA Cup.
Unfortunately though, the versatile midfielder could never really hold down a place in the senior side, and spent two seasons between 2023-2025 on loan with Championship pair Middlesbrough and Preston respectively.
Finally, in August 2025, Greenwood signed for Pogon Szczecin, with the Polish outfit agreeing a deal worth up to a reported £3.45million for the 24-year-old.
Sam Greenwood is enjoying solid season for Pogon Szczecin
Greenwood did flash his quality at Leeds, scoring some brilliant goals at both first-team and academy level, and always looked like a player who could go far if he put it all together on a consistent basis.
His technical and dead ball abilities were always heralded in West Yorkshire, but he did perhaps break into the first-team side at the wrong time, as Leeds were a Premier League side during his first few years at the club.
In this respect, had the Whites been plying their trade in the Championship, Greenwood may well have seen far more opportunities to play, and potentially had an easier pathway to Elland Road stardom.
Alas, that wasn’t to be the case, and now it’s Pogon Szczecin who are sampling his talents, and at this stage of his debut campaign, they must be feeling fairly happy with their sizeable investment.

Three goals and two assists from 15 Ekstraklasa (Polish top flight) appearances marks a solid return for him, and he’s started 13 of those games too, cementing his position as a key player for them.
As per Sofascore, Greenwood is averaging 1.5 shots per game, has scored one of his four free-kick attempts, created three big chances and records an average of 37.1 touches per 90 minutes.
On the flip side, however, he’s also posting a passing accuracy of a modest 81 per cent, has completed just 15 per cent of his dribble attempts successfully and has won only 36 per cent of his total duels.
Greenwood must do more to earn route back to English football
Overall then, Greenwood has enjoyed a decent start to life in Poland, but at the same time, he’s not exactly taken the Ekstraklasa by storm either.
With 10 games to play in the Polish season, Greenwood will no doubt be targeting a handful more goal contributions before the end of the campaign.
However, his current form probably won’t be putting clubs on these shores on notice, as it’s probably safe to assume that he will have one eye on an eventual return to English football in the future.
So, Leeds currently won’t be feeling any real regret over cashing in on Greenwood, who must at least be loving playing regular football once again – something he wasn’t going to get at Elland Road moving forward.
