Harry Gray: Matt Hamshaw sack may not be good news for Leeds United loanee

Harry Gray will play under a new manager soon after joining Rotherham United on loan from Leeds United in the winter transfer window.

The Sky Bet League One outfit have sacked Matt Hamshaw after their 5-0 defeat against Peterborough United at Weston Homes Stadium on 17 March.

Since moving to the AESSEAL New York Stadium, the 17-year-old has made 12 appearances for the Millers, but wasn’t in the matchday squad in the recent loss.

Gray’s development at Elland Road will surely be helped with regular minutes away at Rotherham, but a managerial change may not be good news for the teenager or the West Yorkshire outfit.

Leeds United will hope Harry Gray continues to play for Rotherham United

Rotherham are fighting relegation at the moment as they sit 22nd in the Sky Bet League One table after playing 37 matches.

In the final stretch of the season, the new incoming manager could potentially opt to rely on players other than Gray to score goals, which would mean a drastic decrease in his game time.

The main priority at the AESSEAL New York Stadium will certainly be to get out of the bottom four and it remains to be seen whether the Leeds loanee, who has scored two goals for the Millers, will continue to play an influential role.

Under Hamshaw, the young centre-forward started 12 consecutive games, playing 1047 minutes of league action.

Uncertain times lie ahead for Rotherham and Gray will hope he can continue to play a part in helping the South Yorkshire outfit avoid relegation this season.

Harry Gray in demand as summer interest on cards at Elland Road

Gray has attracted plenty of attention at Rotherham, with Hamshaw previously claiming that they get around 60 requests per week from scouts to watch him.

The teenage sensation, whose brother Archie is at Tottenham Hotspur, is one of the most sought-after talents in English football right now.

Leeds will undoubtedly hope the young striker can succeed in LS11 in the coming years, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see a top team make a significant offer for him sooner rather than later.

In the upcoming transfer window, Gray will surely be in demand but the West Yorkshire outfit’s top-flight status may determine whether they keep him or send him out on another loan.
