Harry Gray destined for Leeds United stay as Rotherham loan exposes risk
Harry Gray has struggled to showcase his worth away from Leeds United.
Gray is comfortably Leeds’ brightest prospect, and for reasons that go far beyond the fact that he is Archie’s brother.
The 17-year-old has scored goals regularly for the Whites’ youth teams, having also already earned international recognition.
At his age, many players stick around the academy set up before finding a suitable loan, but, for Gray, he was thrown into the deep end.
Gray joined Rotherham on loan in the winter, where he has since failed to showcase his true ability, meaning a stay at Thorp Arch may be on the cards.

How has Harry Gray fared at Rotherham?
Unfortunately for Leeds, not very well.
The teenager has scored just two goals in the 16 appearances he has made for the League One side, both of which have come in the league.
| League One | Gray |
| Games | 16 |
| Goals | 2 |
| Minutes per goal | 703 |
| Shots | 30 |
| Shots on target | 12 |
There have been some promising signs for Gray, but for the most part, he has struggled, and that is not all down to his ability, but more so the lack of it from those around him.

Despite there still being four games to be played, Rotherham have been relegated to League Two, so to expect a 17-year-old to have changed those fortunes is unreasonable.
However, the Whites will still have hoped to see more from Gray.
What’s next for Gray at Leeds?
Given his age, the Whites may look to keep Gray at Thorp Arch for another season.
That way, they can monitor his development internally, and it would not be much of a risk given the quality he has shown in the Premier League 2.
Another loan move may appeal to all parties, but if that were to happen, it would need to be at a team where he is going to see plenty of the ball in the forward areas.
Either way, it’s clear that he still has a big future at Leeds, but the development programme needs to be strict.
