Haji Wright had been linked with a move to Leeds United over the last 12 months.

With safety all but secured, Leeds will have already started their planning ahead of the summer transfer window, and a striker will be one of the targets.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has had a good debut season at Elland Road, but his limitations have been there for all to see, with a lack of competition for a starting place.

The Whites will almost certainly be in the market to bring someone in to rival him for that spot, or even come in and take his role.

Wright had been linked with Leeds, but that ship looks to have sailed, and it may be a missed opportunity.

Haji Wright may have been perfect for Leeds

Signing players from the Championship always poses a risk, with the second tier often their level, as seen with Joel Piroe.

But for Wright, that may not be the case, despite it having looked that way when he first linked with a move to Elland Road.

The USMNT international scored his 18th goal of the season against Portsmouth on Tuesday night, but it isnt just his stats this season that impress.

It means that he has hit double figures for goals in each of his last six campaigns, having had time in Turkey and Denmark within that.

That is a goal record to shout home about, but with Coventry having secured their spot in the Premier League for next season, that ship has almost certainly sailed.

Could Leeds still move for Wright?

Promotion doesn’t guarantee his role at Coventry, but it makes an exit far less likely.

Having been their main source of goals for the last three seasons, it’s unlikely that they will look to move him on or even replace him.

Leeds will sign a new striker this summer, but as of right now, it looks as though it will not be him.
