Gabriel Gudmundsson could help Leeds United secure the signing of Swedish teammate Daniel Svensson.

The Whites have been linked with the Borussia Dortmund defender in recent weeks ahead of the summer transfer window.

A move for the Sweden international was touted in the winter window of the 2024-2025 campaign, but interest seems to remain to this day.

However, any attempted move will likely depend on the Peacocks’ Premier League status.

While on national team duty, Svensson has spoken about his future amid rumours of a Leeds transfer, and Gudmundsson could have a role to play in helping the Elland Road outfit.

What has Daniel Svensson said about a move away from Borussia Dortmund?

Leeds are said to be keen on signing Svensson in the summer window. The defender would provide them with an extra option at the back if they stay up.

Even if the LS11 outfit does survive, they could still face difficulties with the Dortmund star delivering an interview speaking about his future.

Svensson has shut down talks of making a move, saying via Fotbollskanalen: “I’m really enjoying Dortmund. I haven’t been there for that long. I feel like I have more to do there. I’m really happy to be there.”

However, while that may put teams off trying to pursue the fullback, Leeds’ Gudmundsson could attempt to persuade the Dortmund star to join him at Elland Road.

The Whites do hold a unique advantage in that regard, and it keeps hopes alive that a deal could ultimately be agreed upon.

Gudmundsson’s already existing relationship with Svensson means the Whites have an indirect line of communication for any attempts at convincing them of their project.

Previous reports have stated that £26million would be the fee Dortmund would consider cashing in on.

Why Daniel Svensson joining Leeds would be good for Gudmundsson

Gudmundsson may have some reservations about a move for Svensson, seeing as they both play the same position and compete for the left-back role for Sweden.

However, the best environments are built on that level of competition for places, pushing both players to improve their game.

If Svensson were to join, it could create a healthy rivalry and provide Farke with added depth to his squad.

While Gudmundsson could have early concerns, the long-term benefits he would receive from this transfer could outweigh the cons.

He would only feel threatened if he did not fully believe he had the quality needed to thrive.
