Dominic Calvert-Lewin takes apparent Everton swipe and it’s all thanks to Leeds United fans

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has seemingly taken aim at Everton after his stunning resurgence at Leeds United.

Calvert-Lewin ended a nine-year association with the Blues in the summer after his contract expired, and joined the Elland Road side.

He has struck 10 times in 26 Premier League appearances, firmly shutting down the doubters and potentially earning an England World Cup berth.

Leeds are reaping the benefits of taking a chance on the 28-year-old, when the Toffees gave up on him and let him leave for free.

What did Calvert-Lewin say about Leeds and Everton?

Calvert-Lewin is loving life at Leeds, and he has admitted as much in an interview on 12 March, revealing that LS11 is like home.

He has been blown away by how supporters have reacted to him, and considers it as his best season in his career.

Speaking to Squawka, he said: “They [Leeds] were looking for a number nine, and I was looking to be the main number nine.

“Once the conversation started, I just got the feeling that I’d been looking for the whole summer of a place that could feel like home, from the moment I joined, it felt like home.

“It took me a while to get going, but I knew I would get going, and I’ve just been proven right the longer time has gone on, in the way that the fans have taken me in, the performances I’ve been able to put in and repay that.

“It’s been a great feeling and probably the most enjoyable season that I’ve played.”

Why is it a dig at Everton?

The fact that he talks about the supporters in the way that he does, and labels Yorkshire as home, will probably strike a nerve with fans of the Merseyside club.

The idea that it is his most enjoyable season also seems to make it an apparent strike at David Moyes’ side, because he had two seasons with the Blues where he had more goals.

He notched 13 goals in the 2019-20 campaign, before scoring 16 in the 2020-21 season, with injuries taking their toll after that.

He played 17 matches in both of the following seasons, and never reached those figures again at Goodison Park, with his best numbers being seven in the 2023-24 season.

Calvert-Lewin will not care about how fans of his former club react to his latest comments, he is in some of the best form of his life and has a brilliant relationship with the Peacocks’ supporters, and that is more important.

Hopefully, the striker and the Whites fans can celebrate survival at the end of the season, but they need him to stay on top form for the run-in, if they are to do that.

The signs so far this season suggest that he can, and that should help Daniel Farke’s side out massively in their battle to avoid relegation.
